Policies
Expectations of Students:
-
Students should bring all their books to each lesson and be attentive to instructions during the lesson time. Parents may either wait outside or are welcomed to listen in on the lesson.

-
To learn their instrument well, students must practice at home. I would suggest that students practice a minimum of 5 days a week for 15-30 minutes each day depending on the students’ age.

-
Parents play a huge role in how much their child learns their instrument. Children need to be held accountable to practice. I give students practice logs every week to make it clear what their weekly assignments are.
What I will Teach:
-
Notes on the piano, theory, ear training, technique, and how to read sheet music. I will teach how to read rhythms and count while they are playing.

-
I try to emphasize learning theory and sheet music. Music theory will help them understand what they are reading and will help them memorize pieces more easily. It gives them more knowledge in the world of music that can carry into other instruments.
Missed Lessons:
-
If you give a 24-hour notice that you need to reschedule a lesson, then I will reschedule. Without the 24-hour notice, I will not reschedule the lesson and it will need to be paid for in full. The only exception is illness or weather-related.
-
If you give me dates at the beginning of the semester that you know will need to be canceled, then that would be appreciated! I would not charge you for those canceled lessons.
